Outback to Glaciers

Dear World Traveler:

THANK YOU for your interest in our March 2012 tour of Australia and New Zealand. Imagine summer being long over, and you are slogging through another dismal winter. At that point wouldn’t you love to be jetting across the blue Pacific for the “down under” journey you’ve been dreaming about? This is your chance! And, when you get there you’ll be made to feel totally welcome for nobody in the world loves Americans more than our Aussie and Kiwi friends.

This tour gives you a wonderful cross-section of Australian landscapes, cities and rural life beginning in Melbourne, known for its Victorian charm and beautiful gardens. You’ll then travel to Australia’s Outback region deep in the country’s vast interior for a visit to Alice Springs and amazing Ayers Rock, perhaps the second most photographed location in the country.

Next stop, Cairns and the teeming undersea life along the Great Barrier Reef. Then on to cosmopolitan Sydney where picture postcard scenes of the Opera House, Harbour Bridge and more unfold before your eyes.

From Sydney, you’ll take a short flight across the Tasman Sea to Christchurch, New Zealand, which many say is “the most English city outside of England.” Following a tour of the city and dinner with a Kiwi family in their home, you’ll travel across New Zealand’s stunning Southern Alps to the Franz Josef Glacier region. You’ll marvel at the sight of massive glaciers in such a mild climate. Continuing through the Alps, one of New Zealand’s prettiest towns – Queenstown – is your next stop. During your stay in Queenstown, you’ll make a day trip to beautiful Milford Sound for a cruise. Following a free day to explore Queenstown on your own, you’ll visit Arrowtown, an 1800’s gold rush boom town on your way to Mt. Cook National Park.

Returning to Christchurch, learn about New Zealand rural life and how local farmers have survived changing times. You’ll fly home from Christchurch, unless you opt for our 2-night extension in the magical islands of Fiji.

The tour price is $7,098 per person, double occupancy and includes:

  • Airfare from Chicago: Your flight to Australia, flights within Australia, to New Zealand and back home all included
  • Transfers between airport and hotel if taking group flights
  • First class accommodations throughout
  • 25 meals: 15 breakfasts, 2 lunches, 8 dinners
  • Sightseeing as described in the brochure
  • Services of your Collette Vacations tour manager
  • Local guides at select locations
  • Services of your Cruise & Tour escort

This tour will be led by Cruise & Tour’s own Diane Brunner, a seasoned world traveler who has been “down under” and can’t wait to go back with you.

Here are 5 reasons to go on this exciting tour:
